Student parliament (StuPa)

The Student Parliament (StuPa) is the highest decision-making committee of the student body. It is elected once a year in a democratic election by the student body and consists of 25 members with equal rights; these members elect a chairperson and deputy chairperson at the constituent meeting of the StuPa.

The StuPa is the mouthpiece of the student body and, of course, its meetings are public. Every THGA student has the right to be heard by this parliament during its meetings.

The most important task of the StuPa is to determine the university policy line, which is advanced by the student units. Active participation in university policy is enormously important, since student co-determination has declined in recent years.

The StuPa's task is to respond actively to problems and grievances and to act as quickly as possible. Furthermore, decisions are made about the student body's membership in student organisations, and partnerships with other student bodies.

The StuPa in turn elects the general student committee, or AStA for short.

It supervises the AStA and exercises financial control over the AStA budget. Expenditures must be approved by the majority of the StuPa and the AStA's finances are audited once a year. The members of the AStA are duly elected by the majority of the StuPa.
